this desolate night - ہجر کی رات

a few weeks ago i read this incredibly beautiful nazm by rahi masoom raza, titled 'chand aur chakor', based on the story of the chakor, so deeply in love with the moon that it flies til exhaustion attempting to reach to its lover. i loved it so much that i wanted to try translate and adapt it, and make a short and sweet game out of it. for funsies. when i say this translation is fast and loose, i mean it, i can't attest to how accurately i've captured the tone or the rhythm (it reads beautifully in urdu, seriously. i could go on and on about it), so consider this mimijay's take on it. i hope i can show you all what captivated me about this poem.
